Jul 15, 2010

Miami Beach,
Fla.
-
Following a
co-endorsement earlier this summer from the statewide Florida Education
Association, the Broward Teachers Union and United Teachers of Dade announced
their full endorsement of Sen. Dan Gelber's campaign for Attorney General and
signal their support for his because of his unwavering leadership for Florida's
school children, parents and teachers.

Karen Aronowitz,
president of United Teachers of Dade shared,
"We
are proud to announce the endorsement of Dan Gelber for Attorney General. He
has consistently proven to be the strongest champion of Florida's public school
system. He doesn't back down from a tough fight in the educational arena, and
that is exactly what our state needs now. As a father, he is reminded daily of
the strengths and weaknesses in our school system and realizes the importance
of making changes sooner rather than later. For these reasons, added to his
extensive court and legal experience, we believe Dan will be education's
greatest ally when he becomes Florida's next Attorney General."

Pat Santeramo,
president of Broward Teachers Union shared,
: "Broward Teachers are excited to stand with Dan Gelber
in his campaign for Attorney General because he is truly invested in our
education system. As the son of a Florida schoolteacher, as the father of three
children in public school, and as a fierce advocate in the legislature, he has
always made education his top priority, and will continue to do so as our next
Attorney
General."

Sen. Gelber said,
"I
am humbled to have the support of two great groups, UTD and BTU and to have the
support of two great leaders, Karen and Pat. I am grateful to the teachers and
school personnel for their dedication and service to preparing our next
generation of leaders. As Attorney General, I will continue to be an outspoken
supporter of our public school system and will fight against efforts to
privatize them."

Dan Gelber was
elected to the State House of Representatives in 2000, serving as the House
Democratic Leader from 2006-2008; and elected to the State Senate in 2008.
Prior to elected life, Dan spent nearly a decade as a top federal prosecutor,
working on public corruption, narcotics and civil rights cases, and serving as
a top deputy in that office. He was then appointed chief counsel and staff
director for the United States Senate's investigations committee where he
focused on terrorism and domestic security.

Dan has the
support of Democrats like Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former U.S.
Attorney General Janet Reno, former Congressman Jim Davis, every Democratic
State Attorney who has endorsed in this race and close to 30 current and former
state legislators. Dan has been endorsed by AFSCME Florida Council 79,
