TALLAHASSEE -- Florida's largest gay political organization endorsed state Sen. Dan Gelber for attorney general today, citing his support of legislation to combat discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and opposition to the state's ban on adoption by homosexuals. Florida Action campaign committee, said both Gelber and state Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, are "friends" of the organization. But Pollitzer said Gelber, D-Miami Beach, "stands apart as someone who has used his political capital to truly lead on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues."

Gelber said he was proud to have the Equality Florida endorsement.

"Standing up for civil rights and for human rights is the foundation of our country and our democracy," said Gelber. "I have worked with Equality Florida and all the human rights organizations throughout Florida and, as attorney general, I will continue to advance the cause of civil rights in our state."
