In the battle for endorsements between the two Democratic candidates for attorney general, state Sens. Dave Aronberg and Dan Gelber, Gelber has scored the latest Tampa Bay area win—former Tampa Police Chief Eduardo Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was chief in 1992-93, leaving to become head of the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

Aronberg, of Greenacres, has emphasized law enforcement endorsements recently, picking up support from four sherifffs in or near his state Senate district.

Gelber, of Miami, endorsed by Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and several Tampa state legislators, probably has the stronger list of local backers, but Aronberg also has some big local Democratic names including former Mayor Sandy Freedman.
